Any automated external defibrillator (AED) may potentially be used to save a life. For this reason, you want to make a well-informed choice when choosing an AED. Whether you opt for something from the Zoll M series or you prefer selections from Philips or Physio-Control, it’s important to have a general feel for what sets each of these top brands apart.
Philips
Philips AEDs include quick-use guides that allow units to be used by just about anyone capable of following the step-by-step instructions. Some models have an easy-to-use pull handle that activates the unit. All Philips models have voice prompts, but not always text prompts.
This brand’s HeartStart OnSite AEDs have on-demand CPR coaching and a diagram on the interface that shows where to place the electrodes. Some units include integrated “smart” pads that automatically detect when they’ve been applied or removed. Others have pediatric capabilities, meaning units are safe for use on children 55 pounds or less.
Physio-Control
Physio-Control has earned a reputation in the health care industry for producing AEDs that are clinically innovative and reliable in emergency situations. The brand’s LifePak series of AEDs is versatile enough to be used effectively by both trained first responders and “Good Samaritans.”
Some Physio-Control models have voice and LED prompts, but no text prompting. However, the Physio-Control LifePak 1000 AEDs include a text prompt plus an ECG display. Other models are upgradeable, allowing for the convenient addition of different parameters as new features become available. Some units include advanced capabilities designed to improve outcomes.
Zoll
Zoll is a brand known for raising the bar when it comes to design, durability, dependability, and performance. The Zoll M series, for instance, simplifies usage instructions, allowing for easy training. The M series units are also small and lightweight with a bright display screen.
Other Zoll models include text and voice prompts, ECG displays, built-in AC power and battery chargers, and pediatric capabilities. Some models do not have an LED prompt, although the Zoll AED Plus has all available prompts, plus a CPR feedback tool to help users.
The upfront cost of any of the AEDs available from these brands is important. However, you also want to consider how easy such devices are to use. Also, AEDs with practice modes can be a good choice if you want the ability to train your personnel on how to use devices with electric shocks deactivated for added safety.
When you purchase an AED from Coast Biomedical Equipment, support won’t be an issue. All products sold are new or carefully refurbished. Additional assistance is provided should any repairs be necessary.
